The issues

This topic focuses on the nutritional aspects of food and looks at links between diet and health. Students are able to reflect on the nutritional and social values of different diets.

The science

This topic illustrates the following fundamental themes:

  • nutritional aspects of food,
  • links between diet and health.

    The activities

    In this topic, the learning activities include:
  • a personal survey of what is eaten during a typical day,
  • an investigation of the contents of the kitchen cupboard,
  • measurements of students height and weight.

    Age Range

    This topic will fit into the general curriculum including science, health education and foreign languages. In most countries it is suitable for students aged 8 to 12 years.
