Promotion of  the SAW programme in public secondary schools in Alexandria, Egypt

teachers listening concentratedIn the frame of promoting Science Across the World Programme, a workshop was held on Wednesday May 6, 2009 at El Nasr Girls' College (E.G.C.).

Objectives of this workshop:

  • to promote SAW in secondary public schools;
  • implementation of the SAW programme during summer school activities.

Participants

  • 20 teachers from different teaching areas (Science - English - IT) from the largest public secondary schools in Alexandria;
  • 9 teachers from E.G.C., 3 teachers from each department (Junior- Middle- Senior).

Workshop

during Prof. El Nemr's presentationProf. El Nemr presentingProf. Dr Medhat El Nemr (Professor of Science Education- Faculty of Education - Alexandria University) presented a lecture about the advantages and the benefits of SAW programme. He spoke about the implementation of SAW as extra circular activity and gave examples of possibilities of outdoor activities and field trips in Egypt.

School Registration

Teachers chose many different topics:

  • Renewable energy;hands-on expirience with SAW
  • Drinking water (available in Arabic);
  • Migration of species (under construction);
  • Plants and me (available in Arabic);
  • Climate change (available in Arabic).
