Classes and students aged 10-16 years are invited to submit a poster on the Importance of Chemistry for Humanity. We have super prizes for younger age (10-13) and older (14-16) students and their teachers with the most quality entries. All winning posters will be presented during the 19th International Conference on Chemistry Education (www.19ICCE.org) in Korea, August 2006.
We look forward to many wonderful posters from all over the world!
Organisation: Young Ambassadors for Chemistry Initiative (YAC)
The YAC initiative is a joint project of
- Science Across the World (www.scienceacross.org) and the
- International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC): Committee on Chemistry Education for the promotion of the Public Understanding of Chemistry.
- The poster competition is supported by the Korean Chemical Society (KCS) and
the organising Committee of the 19th International Conference on Chemical Education (ICCE, August 12-17, 2006) in Seoul, Korea. 2006 is the Year of Chemistry in Korea.
What you should know before starting
- Subject
You can work on your own ideas on 'Chemistry for Humanity'. We also list possible subjects:
- Our world without chemistry
- Chemistry and medicines
- Chemistry and food
- Chemistry and cosmetics
- Chemistry and new materials
- Sustainable energy at home
- Chemistry and renewable energy
- Language
The poster should be self-explanatory, so people all over the world can understand it.
- On the computer or on paper?
We accept electronic entries as well as entries on paper. The size should be A3 (42 x 29,7 cm). Winning electronic posters will be printed for the exhibition on a high quality colour printer. We regret entries on paper cannot be returned.
- File formats for an electronic poster: *.doc, *.pdf, *.gif or *.jpg
- Many prizes for students
2 Gameboys (X-box, Nintendo or Playstation) i-Pod Mp-3 player The top prizes are for an international team of two students (or two teams) from two different countries, where their shared poster clearly shows evidence of collaboration in either the research or design of the poster. We also have prizes for teachers with the most quality entries: Digital Camera Data Logger. The prizes will be sent to the winners during September 2006.
- Deadline and address
We would like to receive your contributions with the student's name and age, postal address and telephone number, teacher's name, school name and country by May 31st, 2006 at the latest. Entries should be sent to Science Across the World:

- Judging
A panel of experts from all over the world will judge the entries.
- Publicity
Apart from the exhibit at the conference in Korea in August 2006 and The Association for Science Education, annual conference in the UK, January 2007; the posters will be published on the Science Across the World (www.scienceacross.org) and IUPAC (www.iupac.org) web sites. We already have a keen interest from many other groups dealing with the public understanding of chemistry.
