Wanted! Trial Schools

Teachers and students aged 8-12 or 12-16 years wanted to trial one or more of our latest plants topics* in our new Gardens for Life project.

*Plants in Our Lives (trials between Jan – Feb 2005)

*Food, Nutrition and Health (trials between March – April 2005)

*How Plants Grow (trials between May – June 2005)

From January – June 2005 teachers with your students are invited to take part in the trials of our exciting trio of new topics, via our website www.scienceacross.org

All participating schools should trial the ‘Plants In Our Lives’ topic and ideally trial one or both of the other two topics in the trial months indicated above.

These topics should take about 6 hours classroom time; longer if the optional Additional Activities are also undertaken.

For each topic the results of the students work are used to complete the Exchange Form, which you then send to other trial schools, of your choice, that are working in your language(s), from our online schools database. You should also respond to schools that send you their own Exchange Forms.

A collection of Exchange Forms from schools globally will encourage students to explore the different responses, and develop a global perspective on ‘Plants’, whilst having great fun, and very possibly making a few pen pals on route!

All participating schools will be required to complete a short online feedback form. In return, as a gesture of appreciation for your involvement in our trials, all schools with students aged 8-12 will receive the brand new ‘Nature Detectives*’ book and schools with students aged 12-16 will receive the ‘Global Dimension’ teaching resources book as well as a Certificate of Participation for each student.

The six best Exchange Forms for each of the three topics, in any of our six main languages will be displayed on our website.

Interested in joining us? Please complete the response form below and return by email to Karen Shoebottom at Science Across the World saw@scienceacross.org

*Nature Detectives – A treasure trove of tried and tested practical environmental science activities suitable for children aged 4-11, in the classroom and outdoors. Each section contains photocopiable pages and a format which allows each activity to be stand-alone or part of a topic series.

Gardens for Life is a Science Across the World project in partnership with the Eden Project, Royal Botanic Gardens (Kew) and the UK government Department of International Development.
